Le Bulletin April 2018

Villa Neo

March saw us happily welcoming “spring-breakers” to St. Barth, and many of our clients had the unexpected advantage of missing a couple of Nor’easters! We were fortunate enough to have some of our family join us for some warm and sunny island time. Our son – SBP vice president Tom Smyth – daughter-in-law, Amy, and grandson, Tyler, came down for the St. Barths Bucket and spent a lovely week at Villa Embruns. Our daughter, Kim, and her bestie, Heidi, spent the week at Villa Nirvana with us, and they are still raving about the sunsets.

The annual St. Barths Bucket Regatta got under way on March 15, and it was one more way we showed the world that St. Barth is BACK! Those super yachts are gorgeous. We were thrilled to catch a close-up view of the start of the action aboard a St. Barth Sailor catamaran, and the excitement was tangible. Mark your calendars for next year’s Bucket – March 21-24, 2019.

It’s still not too late to plan a last-minute spring getaway, and remember, Value Season Pricing – with an up-to-30% discount – begins on April 16 and goes through December 14. In addition, we always have a nice selection of special offers. Take a look at http://stbarth.com/villas/rental-villas-current-specials-packages, and contact one of our villa specialists at This email address is being protected from spambots. I hope to see you on the island.

Villas of St. Barth

We are pleased to welcome Villa Neo to our portfolio.

Villa Neo

Villa Neo – This stunning six bedroom villa is optimally situated above St. Jean Beach and lays claim to panoramic vistas. Constructed on two levels with soaring ceilings, it’s one of the island’s most exciting vacation homes and parfait for an extended family or a gathering of friends. An expansive main level deck offers a wealth of comfortably furnished outdoor living space, an outdoor movie screen and one of the island’s largest pools. Measuring 108 ft., it’s heated and enhanced by an overflowing Jacuzzi.

Neo is air-conditioned throughout, and its spacious first floor encompasses two kitchens (one a chef’s kitchen), a living room, an adjacent media room that can be closed off and a disco-style “nightclub.” Two bedrooms (one a master suite) are on opposite ends of the living area and have direct access to the deck. A third bedroom, located in the back, has a garden view. A dramatic glass staircase leads to the upper level, where there are an additional master suite and two connecting guest bedrooms, all with ocean views and their own terraces. All six bedrooms have beautifully appointed en suite baths; the masters have elegant soaking tubs and oversized dressing rooms.

Additional special features include a fitness room and a hammam. Parking is ample, and guests have the option of taking an elevator to the first and second floors. There’s a menu of TV services (U.S. and French satellite and Apple TV; all bedrooms have TVs), Bluetooth stereo and the latest in technology, including a Home Assistant to control devices via an iPad. Villa Neo’s proximity to St. Jean’s village full of restaurants and boutiques and popular beach is a bonus.

Hotels of St. Barth

Manapany Hotel – Congratulations to our new hotel partner, the 5 star Manapany. Purchased and excitingly recreated by the young, dynamic B Signature Hotels & Resorts group, they opened March 13, 2018. Ensconced on Anse des Cayes Beach, they offer a cool Caribbean beach club vibe – and a stunner of a pool. Actually, there are two pools; one is “adults-only” and is adjacent to their decadent seaside Dr. Hauschka-branded spa. See our website for more information and pictures, and contact us for reservations. Staying in a villa? Contact our concierge to book a lunch, dinner or spa services. Why not spoil yourself? Christopher Hotel – We sadly shared the news about the Christopher: they lost their main restaurant Taino in a fire, just three days before their scheduled post-Irma reopening. Adopting the mantra #ChristopherStronger, they have been hard at work on a comeback. Chef Nicolas Tissier marshaled his team, and the more casual Mango is now open for lunch and Spa Sisley is now welcoming clients. The hotel will officially reopen October 15, but in the interim, discounted rooms are available. For more information, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Pearl Beach HotelVoilà! A St. Jean Beach landmark, the veritable Tom Beach Hotel is now the Pearl Beach Hotel. Its chic renovations include a sexy new pool and a private courtyard. The former La Plage Restaurant is now the Pearl Beach Restaurant, the sister property to the owner’s same-named restaurant in St. Tropez. A beach bar completes the picture – and it’s a pretty one! Island News

One more example of St. Barth’s resiliency was the launch of the 2018 edition of Les Voiles de Saint-Barth. The popular regatta, which this year added two exciting new aspects – a fifth day of racing and the inauguration of a new class – ran from April 8 to 14. There is no question that Les Voiles is contributing to the revitalization and boosting the economy. This year’s godfather? It was Jimmy Buffet, who treated the island to an impromptu free concert. We quickly got the word out to all our clients on the island so they could head down to the quai and enjoy.

Restaurants

Topping this season’s list of exciting new restaurants is Hervé Chovet’s Quartier Général in the heart of Gustavia. The well-known St. Barth restaurateur (Le Rivage and Côté Port) has another winner! It’s very chic, with cushioned banquettes, table seating and a long bar serving creative cocktails. We loved seeing some of Le Rivage’s signature dishes on the menu. It’s open for lunch and dinner.

Love fish? Then we have just the restaurant for you: fishCorner. Johny Laplace, who comes from a long line of island fishermen, partnered with Nicolas Almeda (whose dad is co-owner of Black Ginger) and turned the former Stephane & Bernard Boutique into a fish market that transforms into a restaurant at lunchtime. Fish is sold from 8:00 am till noon, and then again from 3:30 pm until 6:00. Lunch is served from noon until 3:30 pm every day – fresh fish, of course, and you’ll love the homemade sides. It’s so popular you’ll need to reserve your table, and we’ll be happy to do that for you. You’ll find fishCorner in the alleyway by Bar de L’Oubli. It’s open every day but Sunday.

And for your Sunday? There’s Nikki Beach – better than ever post-Irma. The chic beach club is open every day for lunch, but Sundays are the most fun, with a DJ and themes celebrating Paris, Bollywood, Egypt and who knows what.

We had a great time at Belina, and really loved the house. It was perfect for us...modern yet very comfortable, and we enjoyed the location. It was very well done, and we’d like return.
