Le Bulletin - Nov/Dec 2013
We hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving and Chanukah with loved ones. I flew back from St. Barth to Cape Cod just in time to cook and share a big delicious turkey with my family. As always, it was a special day. Also special was our annual season-launching Beach Bash on November 14. This year we launched our 25th!
The venue was the Taiwana Hotel’s newly christened Casa Flamands beachfront restaurant. It sparkled with silver touches for the occasion, and the floral arrangements by Djordje Varda were spectacular. Soley, our favorite guitar-strumming vocalist, serenaded us, and the DJ had us all up dancing. We are delighted to share some pictures. Take a peek. Kudos to restaurant director Octavio Lopes and his team on the menu and execution. If you are planning an on-island event, we heartily recommend Casa Flamands.
To all our clients, friends and island partners, merci beacoup for 25 wonderful, sunny years. Happy Holidays and I hope to see you on the island.

Villas of St. Barth
We are pleased to welcome the following new villas to our portfolio. Situated near one another in lovely Vitet and neighboring Deve, they are perfect to combine for a large group.
Le Chien Rose Configured over three levels, this chic 4 bedroom villa boasts a panoramic view from Petit Cul de Sac to the beach at Toiny and features an extra-long infinity pool that runs the length of the villa’s terrace. Two equally sized en suite bedrooms (king) are on opposite sides of the main level. The third (king) en suite bedroom is housed in a “tree-top” suite–like pavilion with a sitting area and a kitchenette. A lower level en suite (queen) bedroom is suitable for teens or staff.
Villa La Magnifique This delightful one bedroom villa has a sunny, palm tree bedecked front yard and a gorgeous view of the sea. A brilliantly white L-shaped kitchen is “eat-in cozy” and the romantic en suite king bedroom is just off the living area. A covered terrace is perfect for alfresco dining and it’s just a step down to the deck where the pool sparkles in the sun. Note: There is a lower-level (king) bedroom with an en suite bath that would be suitable for teens or staff.
Casa Tigre A truly exceptional four bedroom villa, the stylish and sophisticated Casa Tigre lays claim to a sweeping vista encompassing the azure waters of Grand and Petit Cul de Sac and Toiny’s deep blue sea. Terraced into the hillside and configured over three levels, there is a private elevator (!) to transport guests to-and-fro the main living area which includes an oversized pool and an expansive deck. This level also includes a large eat-in kitchen. A his-and-hers office alcove connects to the spacious living room. All four bedrooms have en suite baths. The master bedroom is off the living area and opens to the pool deck; two are on the 3rd level and the 4th is on the lower level which includes a kitchenette and a glass-enclosed, air-conditioned home cinema.
Not enough room for your group? Then just ask us about Villa Agave Azul, the sprawling deck, lovely pool, fitness room and an amazing view are all crowd-pleasers. Its 3 bedrooms, all en suite, include two masters and a twin-bed kid’s room.
Our tradition of a weekly cocktail party has commenced. This season we are meeting & mingling at an exciting new venue, La Plage at the Tom Beach Hotel, Wednesdays 6:30-7:30pm with the exception of the holiday week. We invite our clients to join us on December 26 and January 2. La Plage is not just a sophisticated beachside bistro. The food is fabulous, so why not stay on for dinner? Contact our conceirge for reservations.
Members of our U.S.-based SBP Team were all on the island this November making their inspection trips. Here’s a bit of what they experienced and recommend. Read Connie Walsh’s trip report.
Julie Nally enjoyed a stay at the 5-Star hotel Le Sereno and at one of the island’s premier properties, Villa Fleur des Cactus. She reports the sunsets there are indeed gorgeous. Her fellow villa and hotel specialists Kathy Schlitzer and Anne-Cecile Bedford enjoyed stays at the architecturally spectacular Villa Wings and Villa Matajagui, respectively. Kathy, who has seen many a villa view, is still raving about Wings’ vista. Anne loved Matajagui’s infinity pool. She says the adjacent covered dining terrace is just perfect for alfresco dining and wanted to remind everyone that Matajagui participates in our Drive, Dine and Relax package which includes dinner prepared and served by a private chef. Kudos to Anne. While on the island, she ran in the annual 13 km road race, the Gustavialoppet!
Hotels of St. Barth
The Hotel Saint-Barth Isle de France, recently acquired by LVMH (Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton), is leveraging that special relationship with a poolside pop-up Champagne Lounge that will provide hotel guests and the public the opportunity to enjoy some vintage bubbly, by the glass, bottle or mixed in a cocktail. The first event was held on November 27 in conjunction with an exhibition of famed photographer Marco Glaviano known for his stunning portraits of nudes and landscapes of St. Barth. The next Lounge will be on Saturday, December 21, from 6-9pm and includes a fashion show of evening dress from la Boutique.
The Christopher will continue to offer their popular Day Passes which include a reserved poolside lounger, a welcome cocktail and lunch at the feet-in-the-sand Mango for 80 euros per person. The passes can be upgraded to include a 60- or 90-minute treatment at the hotel’s Spa Sisley for 140-170 euros. Our marketing and PR duo, Connie Walsh and Pete Holmberg, joined SBP President Peg Walsh to sample the Christopher experience. Merci to GM Sebastien Maingourd for his hospitality. It’s a wonderful way to spend a day on the island. The seaside pool, the island’s largest, is just gorgeous, and the staff is so attentive. To reserve and purchase the passes, contact SBP’s conceirge.
Each season brings new restaurants and Gustavia’s new Thai restaurant Black Ginger with its dramatic décor and authentic dishes has been an instant hit. Staff favorites include Pla Pik Thai Dam – Black pepper Mahi-Mahi and Keng Massaman Kai – Massaman curry chicken in coconut milk.
Les Coulisses has opened harborside and offers a more casual dining experience with tapas and yummy pizza. There’ll be live entertainment on Wednesday evenings with artists like Soley making appearances. An old favorite, Andy’s Hideaway, is sporting a chic new look and is just as much fun as ever.

Santa Fe was our absolute favorite. Did a lunch and supper on different days. Food, service, atmosphere, views—they are all there, and Manu is such an affable, personable presence. Not far behind was Le Carre. Great food and what a wonderful wait staff. Very fun spot. Isoletta was another place for a very good lighter fare experience... John
