Le Bulletin - February 2015
Love is in the air this month here in St. Barth. We have couples celebrating Valentine’s week (and taking a much-needed break from the terrible winter so many are experiencing – brrrrr). They are strolling hand-in-hand on the beaches, soaking up the sunshine and dining under the stars. There’s l'amour de la famille as well. February is a school-break time, and the island’s villas are filled with kids cannonballing into swimming pools, learning to paddleboard and, as always, enjoying pizza at Andy’s with their parents. Kids adore St. Barth.

Villas of St. Barth
We are pleased to welcome Villas Chimère and Belina to our portfolio.
Overlooking Petit Cul-de-Sac, this pretty-as-a-postcard two bedroom villa delights guests as soon as they enter. The infinity pool and the sea beyond are beautifully framed and absolutely ooh & aah-worthy. A sleek, well-equipped kitchen with an island is adjacent to a dining area (for six), and the comfortable living area is furnished for relaxing and TV watching. It opens to the pool deck, an alfresco dining spot and a lovely little yard. The two en suite bedrooms are on opposite sides of the villa: one has a French king bed, and the other, a queen; both have easy access to the heated pool and outside space. The baths have double sinks and rain head showerheads. A guest bath is off the main living area. This is an ideal vacation home for two couples to share and would suit a small family.
Casually chic, two bedroom Villa Belina is tucked away in Colombier and boasts spectacular views of Flamands and island breezes. The expansive indoor living space includes a sitting area with a comfy sectional couch for TV viewing, and dining for six. The adjacent kitchen has an island bar with seating for four. A terrace is furnished to offer abundant outdoor living space, and the pool deck is just a few steps down. An extra-long infinity pool is just gorgeous. The two (king) en suite bedrooms – both with ocean views – are on either side of the villa. One has a private terrace and a second set of sliders open to a deck with a hammock. You can step right into the pool from the other. The en suite baths are beautifully appointed with double sinks, walk-in rain showers andprivate WCs. The villa’s guest bath features an outdoor firehouse-style shower.
Hotels of St. Barth
Big news just announced by Hotel Le Toiny, the property has been bought by Charlie and Mandie Vere Nicoll and a group of family and friends. Charlie Walker, who was Managing Director at the Hotel St Barth Isle de France for 12 years during the Vere Nicoll’s ownership, will take over that role at Le Toiny. Luc Lanza, formerly of Eden Rock will be the new General Manager. A complete refurbishment of the hotel is planned for later in 2015. Other projects will be announced as they come on stream and of course, we’ll keep you updated.
Returning clients were initially disappointed to hear the Wall House Restaurant was “gone.” Harborside on the La Pointe side of Gustavia, it was a perennial favorite for many who loved lunching with the locals and dining on the terrace. Many remained faithful through its ups and downs the past few years. Now under new ownership, it has reopened with a new name, Provença, and an exciting revamped menu with a Provençal flair.
Chef de Cuisine Thomas Destinee and Second de Cuisine Cedric Lablanche are the new team in the kitchen. General Manager Marie Pecoul, who calls the region of Provence home, delights in sharing details of the traditional dishes, which are designated with a cicada on the menu. St. Barth Properties President Peg Walsh, a longtime Wall House devotee, heartily approved and loved being seated at her favorite perfect-for-people-watching window table. She recommends the octopus appetizer and the Prawns Flambéed with Pastis with a side of Forbidden Black Rice. Read Peg's review.
