Le Bulletin June 2018

Villa Lyra

I happily spent the first week in June on beautiful St. Barth. It was a whirlwind trip packed with meetings focused on content for our Live Your Dream magazine. Last year’s publication was “rudely interrupted” by Irma just days before we were to go to press. After all the island has gone through, we are taking great joy in compiling this new issue and are pleased and proud to share that we will be celebrating St. Barth Properties’ 30th anniversary. We set the date and venue for our annual season-launching Seaside Soirée, and will welcome clients on the island to join us on December 7 at the stunning 5 star Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa. Grand Cul De Sac fulfills the seaside component, and there will be music, dancing, delicious food and, of course, Champagne. We hope you can join us! Our week included a two-night stay at St. Jean Beach’s steps-from-the-water boutique hotel Pearl Beach Saint Barth (formerly the Tom Beach Hotel). The beach deserves its rave reviews, and the new pool is delightful. I must say, the highlight of my stay was celebrating Marius Stakelborough’s 95th birthday with his wealth of family and friends on June 5. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, the indomitable Marius is the owner of the island’s iconic beer & burger shack Le Select. What fun! Read more about it in my latest Peg’s Blog post, and take a minute to subscribe for all the latest news.

I hope to see you on the island.

Villa Lyra

Poised above Gouverneur Beach, the dramatic view from Villa Lyra is as stunning as the villa itself. Contemporary in design and décor, it’s configured over several levels, with six bedrooms (all en suite, with king beds). Rich, dark wood floors and louvered shutters add a traditional touch and complement the light neutral palette. The heated infinity pool is the focal point of an expansive deck furnished for vacation-mode outdoor living and dining – complete with a sound system. A guest bath and an outdoor shower are conveniently situated, especially for those coming up from the beach. A kitchenette with a gas grill facilitates the fun of poolside BBQs. Indoors, a spacious, comfortable living room is perfect for conversation and feet-up TV viewing. A second guest bath and a dining area are also on this level. A well-equipped (fit for a chef) kitchen has a cold room for storage; private chef services can be arranged for all, or a portion, of the stay through our concierge team.

Villa Lyra bedroom

Two bedrooms are in the main house. One, off the living area, has a private terrace. The master suite is upstairs, and its wraparound deck offers an incredible view. Four identical guest rooms are housed in two separate lower-level pavilions, each of which features an outdoor shower and a view of the sea. They share an outdoor living area and a kitchenette. Additional features include an air-conditioned fitness room with a billiard table, and the TVs throughout, including in the bedrooms, have U.S. and French satellite TV and Apple TV. Guests love being just “up the hill” from gorgeous Gouverneur Beach and in close proximity to Gustavia’s shops and restaurants and its iconic harbor.

Lyra is part of the Grand Cru collection. Ronas, the manager of Villa Lyra, not only prepares breakfast but is also on hand to prepare light lunches for a nominal fee. Read all about it in Peg’s Blog.

Hotel News

Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France. We have happy news from our hotel partner Cheval Blanc St-Barth Isle de France: their renovations are progressing well, and they will reopen December 1, 2018 – “more splendid than ever.” Reservations are now being accepted from December 1 onward for accommodations (one-bedroom rooms and suites) in the main building on the beach or the gardens and in hillside suites. The other beachfront accommodations will be available at a later date – to be advised.

Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa. This stunning 5 star property on the shores of Grand Cul de Sac will reopen on October 28, 2018. Accommodations are more luxurious than ever and include new two- and three-bedroom beachfront suites. There will be an enhanced spa and a new late-night rooftop bar.

Restaurants

The Hideaway We’re happy to share that the long-popular restaurant The Hideaway reopened on June 15. For now, it’s open only for dinner (every evening but Wednesday), and they’re serving up their beloved thin-crust pizza and house specialty pierrade. If you haven’t indulged, diners cook thinly sliced meats and fish on a hot stone placed in the center of the table. There’s a trio of dipping sauces, and sides include salad and fries. It’s highly recommended! The casual vibe makes it a favorite for a first-night-on-the-island dinner. Good work, Hafida!

Café Gloriette – There’s a new restaurant in town: Café Gloriette. We’re sure many of you enjoyed leisurely feet-in-the-sand lunches (pre-Irma) at the family-owned Le Gloriette, and maybe picked up a bottle of their house-made rhum. The family recently opened a café in the heart of Gustavia. The menu includes salads as gorgeous as they are healthy, delicious house-made quiches, hearty breads and other goodies. They blend fabulous fruit and veggie smoothies, concoct an exceptional Planteur’s Punch, and their wine list offers a nice, reasonably priced selection. They’ve incorporated a little boutique into the café where they sell their signature rhums and fun branded items like beach bags and such – so it’s one stop for lunch and souvenir shopping. Read more about it in Peg’s Blog.

The island was so absolutely green and gorgeous, and the villa was amazing! Celine (housekeeper) was as well; in fact, we looked forward to seeing her every day. The view was superb, and the quick drive to the bakery in Colombier in the morning for croissants and pastries was convenient.
