Le Bulletin November 2019

Villa Méli Mélo

Our early November arrival in St. Barth began a few weeks of whirlwind activity. Our stay included preseason meetings with island staff and partners and a full agenda of villa and hotel inspections – and “test” dining in the new restaurants. (We loved the quiet ambience of our weeknight seaside dinner at Pearl Beach, and the food was outstanding!)

We participated in the annual St. Barth Gourmet Festival; our dinner at L’Esprit, where chef Philippe Jourdin was the guest of owner and executive chef Jean-Claude Dufour, was an homage to French gastronomy and a unique culinary experience. The festival includes lighthearted activities as well, like a bartenders’ race and special cooking contest, judged by the visiting French chefs, for the island’s young people. Fun!

Amateurs Pastry Competition “Petites toques St Barth”

The Caribbean Journal’s 2019 Caribbean Rum Awards event – held for the first time on St. Barth – was incorporated into the festivities. St. Barth Properties was pleased to be a sponsor.

Everyone’s favorite burger shack, Le Select, celebrated its 70th anniversary, beginning on November 8 and culminating on November 11 with an impromptu concert by Jimmy Buffet. The set included several songs that were special to the island, and he brought the house down with renditions of “Hey Good Looking” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.” We had celebrated the November 11 holiday (our Veteran’s Day) sailing and snorkeling with Miguel of St. Barth Sailor and made it back on shore just in time for Jimmy’s concert. What a day!

It was so nice of Jimmy Buffet to surprise us and jump up to start singing a set for all of us on Le Select's 70th Anniversary celebration. I was lucky to have found a small place to sit to be able watch and sing along.

Lastly, our November island time was extra special, as we happily attended the wedding of our colleague Benoit Meesemaecker, St. Barth Properties’ gérant, to his lovely Anne Picard. Felicitations, Benoit and Anne!

Its outdoor living space includes a sunny deck with a heated swimming pool, a gazebo offering shade and an eagle’s nest “hideaway” furnished for relaxing and taking in the sweeping views of Gustavia, St. Kitts, Statia, the sunset and the sea. Two equal-sized en suite bedrooms are on one side of the living area. The spacious master suite is housed in a separate pavilion and includes a dressing room. Villa Silhouette

Villa Silhouette
This delightful 1) bedroom villa is honeymoon-perfect and leverages its Anse de Cayes location with gorgeous views of St. Barth’s brilliant blue waters. Its sunny deck encompasses a cute-as-a-button outdoor kitchen; well-equipped for cooking and chilling rosé, it also functions nicely as a pool bar. A gazebo, furnished for dining, is next to the plunge pool, and just across there’s a covered, rain-protected sitting area. Glass sliders with screens separate the deck from the air-conditioned bedroom, where a king bed is positioned to take in the view. A built-in armoire and a column of drawers provide plenty of storage, and there’s a desk to set up a laptop. The en suite bath is lovely and spacious. Note: There is an additional outdoor shower. The bedroom’s TV is equipped with Dish Network, and the Sonos sound system has indoor and outdoor speakers. Guests will find an iPad programmed to easily manage all the electronics. The coral Anse des Cayes Beach is a walkable distance via a steep hill.

Hotels of St. Barth

We are delighted to be working again with the charming Les Ondines Sur La Plage. This small family-owned and -operated hotel is poised directly on the shore on Grand Cul de Sac – and it’s perfect for families, especially those with younger children. They’ll love the delightful pool and the private beach’s warm, shallow azure waters. The six suites include one- and two-bedroom options (king and twin beds), which are beachfront or with a pool and garden view. The suites have fully equipped kitchenettes and dining and living areas with terraces. Amenities include Bluetooth sound systems and Netflix. Guests can lounge poolside or seaside on sunbeds, and there’s a little beach bar and boutique. Kayaks and snorkeling equipment are also available for use. Rental includes a full breakfast, to be enjoyed in your suite or at the waterfront dining room.

Island & Restaurant News

Restaurants are always news on St. Barth, and there’s been a lot of buzz about Zion, which opened recently in St. Jean’s old Hideaway location. Our team numbers among its fans. Its décor benefited from a complete – a la boho chic – makeover. The inventive menu is just a bit “exotic,” and they offer creative cocktails. Reasonably priced.

A new menu and management team at Gustavia’s Ociela - Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar is a good reason to visit this harborside restaurant. The Mediterranean cuisine has a strong Middle Eastern influence. The harbor view is stunning, and the lower-key vibe is relaxing. If you’re lucky (as we were), you’ll find island crooner Soley strumming his guitar.

The dates for the 2020 St. Barth Gourmet Festival have just been announced: November 11-15, 2020. Mark your calendars.

Client Accolade

We had a wonderful vacation! Favorite beach remains Gouverneur – can’t beat the shallow calm waters, all the fish at your feet and snorkeling along the rocks. Our villa was beautiful and one of the best views we have had during any of our stays. The concierge was AMAZING. Our kids will be spoiled with the St. Barth beaches ... American beaches and water just will never compare.… Thanks again for your help, as always!
